Thalassic – Wordplay Wednesday™ 01/02/2019

Something to be said for “short and sweet”

Did I forget this is Wednesday? Of course not! Well, maybe a little. Though posted late, it’s a short-‘n’-sweet edition that won’t take long, for either of us.

I have a reason—not an excuse, I don’t believe in excuses, they’re a sign of weakness—I always have a reason. I need the tranquility of this week’s word …

THALASSIC (thɘ lasʹik) adj. – 1) of the sea or ocean, marine; 2) of bays, gulfs, etc. and inland seas, as distinguished from the ocean. [WW #197]

Whichever meaning you choose, thalassic is a conveyor of serenity and the calming influence of great bodies of water. For decades, the ocean has soothed my soul’s ruffled feathers. In those times when Mother Ocean has been at more than arm’s length, I close my eyes and call on my memories for her thalassic nurturing.

Find your quiet place in this first week of the New Year … we all need one. If not at the shore of an ocean, a sea, a bay or gulf … close your eyes and let your imagination take you there.

Word Challenge: THALASSIC. January is an excellent month to walk a slower pace, inside and out. Its apt name originates from Latin for door (ianua) … an open door to new beginnings. You need a quiet space to find your door, as you fit thalassic into your week of introspective writings.

Cheers to a Happy and Creative New Year!
